Tafraoute
Take in Tafraoute on an Anti-Atlas circuit including Taroudant and perhaps Tiznit, or on a trip inland from Agadir on the Atlantic Coast. There is plenty to see in the area for a full day’s sightseeing, but the best thing about Tafraoute is that it is surrounded by such diverse landscapes enabling the visitor to uncover heaps of Amazigh (Berber) history and culture. The roads to and from Taroudant feature old granaries, hilltop Kasbahs, abandoned villages and verdant palm oases.
Painted Rocks
Nestled in the magnificent Almenn valley, the village of Tafraoute is surrounded by famous blocks of pink granite. In the middle of this setting is one of the most surprising artistic creations of the region: Painted Rocks.
In 1984, the Belgian artist Jean Vérame painted a dozen blocks of rocks in blue in the town of Aguerd Oudad, near Tafraout. Whether we like it or not, this work does not leave anyone indifferent and we will even find lovers of this psychedelic setting. There is something for everyone. It’s absolutely worth seeing.
