Agadir

In the west of the country, bordered by the waves of the Atlantic, Agadir is one of the pearls of Morocco. Whatever the season, the sun pours its rays and the city enjoys a pleasant climate that the trade winds still soften. Above all, its 10-kilometre-long seafront offers tourists magnificent views of the blue ocean and the opportunity to laze around in the best conditions.

The main seaside resort of the country, the city with 300 days of sunshine per year, is full of activities. At the water’s edge, cafés and restaurants open their doors to you, introduce you to the local gastronomy and submit their specialities to the enlightened judgements of your taste buds!

Further on in the city, the El Had souk spreads out through the streets, deploys its stalls: more than 6,000 shops offer themselves to your curiosity and you will enjoy strolling in this atmosphere animated by the negotiations of the merchants. Never sleepy, the city welcomes every summer the Timitar festival dedicated to world music and more specifically to Amazigh music.

Open to the ocean and the world, Agadir is an active city where it is good to relax.

Targa N’touchk

Targa N’touchka is a 100% natural place to walk which offers incredible landscapes to take in. Targa N’Touchka owes its reputation to its palm grove and its souk. With its century-old date palms, the Targa N’Touchka palm grove is the only palm grove in the province of Chtouka Aït Baha .

This is irrigated by 3 springs, one of which is known for its healing properties (kidneys). You will notice the large traditional building, Taggenza Ifferd, which dominates the palm grove.

Tizi n’ Tichka

There is one road trip in Morocco that is not only takes you to your destination but has views and sights one has to experience to believe. The road was constructed in 1936 by the French, and links the great city of Marrakech to Ouarzazate. It takes travelers on a journey of adventure, beauty and breathtaking views, allowing visitors to experience a historical and spectacular part of the country. Locals met along the way make the expedition even more spectacular. This famous road is called Tizi n’ Tichka Pass, and is a safe and exciting way to explore Morocco.

At the highest peak of the Tizi n’ Tichka Pass visitors will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. As the road begins to make its way down to Ouarzazate, travelers will be able to marvel at pre-Sahara regions that lie dry and motionless and the silent peaks of the great Atlas Mountains. The views, the villages and the time spent on the Tizi n’ Tichka Pass is a truly unique experience. Travelers are encouraged to take this journey of history, wonder and natural amazement.

Tafraoute

Nestled in the gorgeous Ameln Valley, the village of Tafraoute is surrounded on all sides by red-granite mountains. It is a pleasant and relaxed base for exploring the region.

Day 1: Agadir

We organize Best Atlas trek with local guides. After arrival we explore Agadir after we transfer you from the airport to the hotel.

Day 2: Agadir – Oasis Of Aït Moussa

Today we’ll drive for around 120 km to the oasis at Aït Moussa. Enjoy scenic road with wonderful views of the city of Ait Melloul as our road climbs above it to the Ait Baha Plateau. Before we stop for lunch (prepared by our trekking crew), you’ll get to see even more panoramic views, the picturesque Moroccan villages and finally, we’ll arrive at the beautiful Oasis of Bouikhssaine. We’ll start the trek downhill with our mules and muleteers to our first camp among the trees.

Day 3: Targa Toucheka – Tazayoute Gorge – Oasis Of Touchka

After breakfast we start the day’s trek with a gradual ascent. It will take us around an hour to reach two village-fortresses that are great representatives of the local architecture. Located in commanding positions, these village-fortresses are dry-stone built without any mortar and contain impressive doors and porches often with finely carved detail. When we leave the villages, we’ll descend into the Tazayoute Gorge, a beautiful part of the Moroccan countryside, inhabited by wild boars. We’ll travel through the gorge and then climb to cross the col of the Tizi n’Timsguida, before descending to the river for a traditional Berber lunch. Then we reach the night’s excellent camp at the beautiful Oasis of Touchka, located at 479 m. Our trekking for the day will yield 5 or 6 hours walking with 660 m of ascent and 400 metres of descent.

Day 4: Imzie

Our trek today takes us through several small villages and our guide will help us talk to the Berber locals and find out a bit more about how they live in the tough environment of the mountains and plateaus. As we hike, we’ll come to an area of Morocco that is increasingly covered with almond trees and olive groves (these are very characteristic of the region). We’ll then start our climb to Imzie, where we can have some tea at one the local houses, before we continue our trek to our camp. At 670 m we’ll settle down for the night. Our day should give us around 5 hours of walking and hiking.

Day 5: Imzie – Tizi N Tikki – Ait Iften

We will trek into the heart of the wild Tagdichte Gorge, filled with palm trees. Fro there we’ll climb to the Tizi n’ Tikki Pass at 1380 m. From the col we can descend into the village of Inzguérne that clings to an impressive high cliff and is accessed via a long stone staircase. We’ll take our lunch by the river and afterwards trek for a further 2½ hours to reach Aït Iften, at 1500 m, located below the peaks of the Jebel Lekst. Our day will be 6 hours walking with 1270 metres of ascent and 450 metres of descent.

Day 6: Jebel Lekst

Ascent We follow a shepherds’ trail (sometimes barely discernable) over rocky ground as we climb gradually to the summit of Jebel Lekst (2359 m ASL). From the top we have magnificent views of the Anti Atlas, that extend north to the High Atlas including Jebel Toubkal (the highest mountain in North Africa), and south to Tafraoute and the magnificent desert. These mountains are also home to Cuvier gazelles and though they are shy creatures we certainly have a chance of spotting one or two today. From the summit we have a long descent via Anergui to Anamer and our last camp of the trek will be at 900 m. The day wll be about 7 hrs walking with 760 metres of ascent and 1360 metres of descent.

Day 7: Tafraout / Agadir

Today we’ll spend our last morning trekking through a beautiful landscape of lofty crags, palm filled gorges and terraced hillsides that are dotted with Berber mud-brick houses. After approximately 3 hours we reach the large village of Tafraoute in the Ameln valley. Tafraoute has a very relaxed feel and is a good place to buy local craft items. We will take our lunch here before boarding our tour bus and heading through the Ameln Valley and climbing to the Tizi Mlil. Having crossed this pass the road now turns north west around Jebel Lekst and descends to Aït Baha before levelling out for the final stretch into Agadir. When we arrive in Agadir we’ll check into our hotel and also have the chance for a welcome shower before a celebration dinner.
